In spite of the problems created by the pandemic this doctor contacted me to keep me updated. Both times I have seen him he has been extremely kind and caring. He explained things in detail and even though I decided not to go ahead with the surgery I felt he had given me the confidence to make the right decision. He said he would be there for me in the future should I need his services again.

I was referred to a neurosurgeon, Mr Arzoglou, when my ability to walk and hold myself upright was becoming increasingly difficult and painful. I was extremely anxious during my first consultation when I was shown the x-rays of my spine and told just how bad things were but this consultant treated me kindly and patiently and explained in "plain English" what had happened over time and what would continue to happen with no intervention. He was calm and reassuring; asked me lots of questions and encouraged me to ask questions to better understand what the problem was. At this time he briefly outlined what he could do to improve the situation, but there were lots of pros and cons so he gave me a very detailed letter explaining absolutely everything and told me to go home, thoroughly read the information given and discuss it with my family before making any decisions. He then arranged a followup appointment and suggested I bring one or more members of my family so it could be openly discussed with us all and he could answer whatever doubts they may have. I gained total confidence in him at this second appointment through the way he responded to everything they asked him about the operation, irrelevant or not! When the appointment ended I was absolutely sure I wanted to go ahead with the surgery even though there were no guarantees. I have had my surgery now, and may need further surgery in the coming months but I have total confidence in Mr Arzoglou that he will do whatever he can to make my quality of life as good as he can. He treated me and my family with kindness, consideration and positivity both pre and post op and I do not see how the care I received could be improved.

I had been in a lot of pain from sciatica and hamstring pain and buttock pain for 17 years, walking was no longer a pleasure so i decided to do my own research on different neurosurgeons looking at their reviews. After all my research I came across Mr. Vasileios Arzoglou And made an appointment to see him at the Spire, Hull. I found him to be very approachable, he listened to what my problems were and after carrying out numerous tests, he advised me that I had spondylolisthesis at l4-L5, and advised me that he would carry out an L4-L5 Bilateral fenestration decompression and that he could carry out this operation within a 3cm incision. After I woke from surgery they had me walking and walking up stairs. I could’nt believe it, I was completely pain free and Eight weeks later I am still pain free and hence I am very pleased and grateful for what he has achieved for me.

This Dr is lovely and my initial consultation gave me great hope that he would get to the bottom of my long standing devastating pain in my thoracic spine. He found dextroscoliosis from a CT and requested a further spect scan in order to find my problem. However, a year later, delay due to covid, I was devastated at my review to be told he couldn't do anything to help me. I was shocked and didn't ask the questions that I needed answering after he said he would refer me to rheumatology. I walked away upset and annoyed at myself for not asking certain questions. I am still in constant hideous pain and feel like I keep getting passed from pillar to post. Dr Arzoglou is lovely but as a suggestion maybe another Dr could sign off his referrals as I am still waiting 6/7 weeks later for my referral due to Dr Arzoglou catching covid. Whilst I sympathize greatly, I am desperate for this to be done so that my GP can refer me privately. I went to Dr Arzoglou as a private patient and he then referred me back to himself on the NHS as the spect scan was only available on the NHS. This then took a year more of pain for me which has also been very frustrating when living with such severe pain. I am desperate for the help of the correct consultant, which I thought was going to be Dr Arzoglou.
